Our mission is to protect your home or business from threatening situations and minimize loss due to theft. Here are some helpful tips that can provide you and your family with peace of mind.

Doors
Since most burglaries occur through a door, start with a good deadbolt lock. But recognize that a lock is not enough. The frame, door, and lock must work together to resist physical attack. The door frame must be reinforced around the striking plate; otherwise, even with a good lock, the frame can be pried open or the door can be kicked in. Remember, a burglar isn't concerned with damage and will use more force than you would when you are testing your door.

Flood Lights
Outdoor motion flood light sensors should be used to cover the outside perimeter of any house. Windows that are next to bushes or trees are particularly vulnerable because they can shield an intruder. Flood lights can be integrated throughout your security system.

Fire Prevention
Don't overload your electrical circuits. This is one of the most common causes of fires. Keep matches and lighters out of the reach of children. Don't smoke in bed. Don't accumulate oil or grease-soaked rags. Keep combustibles far away from grease sources. Use fire, CO2, smoke, and heat detectors in your home.

Prevent False Alarms
Instruct all users on the proper operation of your alarm system. Give them hands-on practice. (First call your monitoring station to let them know you're testing the system.) Our systems are pre-programmed to prevent dispatches on false alarms. Instruct all users to disarm the system as soon as they cause a false alarm. If you don't have a siren on your system, have one installed or consider an exterior siren for added protection. This way, users will be aware when they've set off a false alarm and can ensure that police are not dispatched. Ensure that all users have a confidential passcode to properly identify themselves, and notify Alarm Systems of Canada of users and passcodes.

Home Security Tips
  • Leave lights on outside at night. Install motion sensing or photo-sensitive lights near every entrance to your home. When you are not in, leave a few inside lights on.
  • Trim the hedges next to your home, keeping them no higher than your windowsill so that burglars won't have a hiding place.
  • Permanently mark your valuables and keep a written record of them.
  • Make sure your garage doors are securely locked.

  • When you're away get someone to park in your driveway, and have your newspaper delivery cancelled.
  • Don't leave spare keys in obvious hiding spots like outside flower pots, under welcome mats, or on window ledges.
  • Talk with your neighbours about watching our each other's houses, especially during holidays.
