  1. What is the purpose of having a monitored security system?

  2. With our systems, your home or business is protected 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Imagine the peace of mind you will have knowing that when you are away, your family members and your cherished possessions are shielded from robbery. You will have full use of three panic buttons (police, medical, and fire) located on the keypad. Our systems have a silent forced alarm code feature; use this option if you are ever worried about an intruder.

When an alarm is detected you will be contacted -- at work, or on your cellphone or pager -- and the proper authorities (police or guard service) will be notified.

Installing an alarm system will save you up to 20% on your insurance premiums.

  3. How does an alarm report to central station?

  4. By installing a CA38 jack and running a connection between it and Bell's demarcation point, the alarm will have proper line seizure. This means that if anyone is talking on the telephone, or if an intruder takes the telephone off the hook, the alarm will still send a signal and properly communicate with the monitoring system.

    • panic buttons
    • low temperature sensors
    • high temperature sensors
    • deep freeze monitors
    • window contacts

  6. What if I have pets?

  7. Our latest designs in motion sensors allow for pet movement while still providing protection. A pet-immune motion sensor is specifically designed so that a pet under a certain weight will not set off the alarm. This is achieved through state-of-the-art dual sensor technology, located in the motion device. Pets under a certain weight do not create enough heat to trigger the alarm.

  8. What if I accidentally trip my alarm?

  9. First and foremost, remain calm and simply enter your four-digit security code. If your system still doesn't disarm, press CLEAR and try your code again. Then get your emergency response card and call the monitoring station to advise them that you accidentally tripped your alarm. You will need to tell them your password and account number.

  10. How long will it take to install my security system?

  11. That depends on the size of the system and accessibility for wiring. The basic alarm (two contacts and one motion) takes about half a day to install.

  12. How can my business benefit from CCTV cameras?

  13. The installation of closed circuit television cameras will save your company thousands of dollars in loss prevention. Retailers on average lose 5% of their inventory due to employee and customer theft. Statistics show that this loss can be cut in half with the addition of CCTV cameras.

  14. What happens when the alarm goes off?

  15. A trained dispatcher will call your home to verify if you have set off the alarm inadvertently by yourself, and will ask for your passcard. If there is no answer after five rings or if the correct password is not given, the proper authorities (police or guards) are immediately notified and dispatched to your premises. The monitoring station will proceed to go through the call list for the premises and try to reach a responsible party. The police or guards, once they have arrived, will do a perimeter check of your premises and look for any visible signs of forced entry. If none is found, they will leave. The alarm will reset itself after four minutes and the siren will stop. If a break-in has occurred, the police or guards will notify the station and report their findings to you.

  16. How do false alarms occur?

    • user error (ie. someone takes too long to leave)
    • old equipment
    • poor quality equipment or faulty equipment
    • good equipment installed improperly
    • programming error
    • extreme weather conditions

  17. What happens in the event of power failures?

  18. The system has a backup supply battery, housed in the control panel. It will recharge itself once the power returns.

  19. Can the system be set when we are in for the evening?

  20. Yes. Arming your system in Home Mode disarms the interior motion detectors to allow you freedom of movement while keeping the perimeter armed.

  21. What is the advantage of having a monitored smoke detector?

  22. Having a monitored smoke detector on your premises ensures that the fire department wil be contacted if you have a fire emergency. A good photoelectric smoke detector will detect smoke particles caused by even a slow smoldering fire. If you are not at home and do not have a monitoring service, odds are that no one will hear your smoke alarm -- hence the importance of 24 hour monitoring. With this service, your smoke detector is continuously monitored 24 hours a day, even when your alarm system is not armed.

  23. Do you pay more to have other devices monitored?

  24. You pay the same monitoring fee regardless of which other devices are being monitored! It makes sense to have other devices, such as carbon monoxide and smoke detectors, installed to maximize the value of your monitoring.

  25. Do the police charge to respond to my premises?

  26. Probably. Depending on where you live, the police may have implemented a cost-recovery program for alarm dispatches. Check with your Alarm Systems of Canada security consultant for any applicable charge in your area.
